The Science Behind The Common Cold

The common cold, believe it or not, is a respiratory infection cause by a virus known as Rhinoviruses and they can be found on almost all corners of the globe. Unfortunately these virus are very resilient and actually evolve so often that its impossible to develop a cure for it. This may sound scary, but in all reality the common cold is pretty benign and will just cause you to feel down in the dumps from a few days up to a week normally. Does cold weather really cause you to catch a cold? Well yes, but not for the reason you may think. The virus that causes the cold travels very well in humid air where moisture will actually allow it to travel a fair distance before it dies. Cold viruses may live up to 48 hours without a human or host to attach to before it dies off. In saying that, when it is chilly outside, we tend to want to bundle up to stay warm in our homes. The cold air is so dry that it tends to dry out our mucus lining within our nasal passages and throat which is responsible for catching pathogens and viruses before they can enter our body. So our immune system is weakened by the cold frigid air which allows more particles, pathogens, and/or viruses to freely enter our body once we step inside to a nice warm humid building, aka our homes. The Rhinovirus is very contagious and once in your system, it may take up to 3 days before any symptoms appear. Unfortunately, once it's in, there is nothing we can do other then let it run it's course until our body can eliminate it.

What Can I Do Then to Get Rid of The Common Cold?

Well, unfortunately once you have the virus in your system, there is no way to get rid of it. We can only help alleviate the nasty symptoms. We can actually help our bodies to cut the duration of the cold shorter by up to 3 days, which is 3 whole days of no feeling like garbage for lack of a better word. So we recommend to be as clean as possible and to always wash hands and avoid being in close contact with others that are infected with a cold. Prevention is the key to avoiding the common cold. But if you weren't able to stay clear of the dreaded cold, then you can start by shopping our natural remedies to at least help alleviate the pesky symptoms and even cut the duration of the cold by 2 or 3 days. Being healthy and active will make for a stronger immune system which in the end will greatly reduce your chances of catching airborne illnesses and will help to eliminate them quicker. Otherwise shop and find your cough and cold remedy that offer natural ingredients so you don't have to worry about any harmful substances. Please note that not every product or remedy offered will be completely free of any ingredients that may cause contradictions so we always recommend to consult your physician or doctor first!
